ABOUT DR. POWELL

I received my undergraduate degree from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island majoring in both Psychology as well as Human Development & Educational Studies. Upon graduation, I began my doctorate in clinical psychology from American University in Washington, DC under the mentorship of Michele Carter, Ph.D. as well as Laura Anthony, Ph.D. of Children’s National Medical Center.  My research examined the emergence of unique cognitive profiles in young children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. While in graduate school I was awarded a Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities & Related Disorders (LEND) fellowship at Children's National Medical Center. I also completed a two-year fellowship at the Yale Child Study Center where I received intensive generalist training as well as a specialization in autism.  I am currently a faculty member at the Yale Child Study Center.

At Yale, I specialize in the assessment and treatment of individuals with ASD and their families.  My current research focus is in developing, implementing, and evaluating evidence based parenting interventions for children with ASD. Additionally, I am actively involved in research projects focused on further understanding phenotypic expression, developmental trajectories, and outcome in ASD including co-morbid disorders. Clinical pursuits at the Child Study Center include interdisciplinary evaluations of young children with ASD and related disorders as well as the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based treatments into the community.

In addition to my private practice and work at Yale, I also run monthly support groups for parents of children with ASD as well as adults with ASD through the Autism Services & Resources Connecticut (ASRC) in Wallingford, CT.
